A plan in the deeds of 8 Gloucester Road shows the ownership of property in the terrace in 1865.  This shows that number 18 is owned by John Hodges and is occupied by Mrs Elizabeth Williams.

In 1871 census the house is occupied by Hannah Williams, described as a retired butcher’s wife.

We know from the 1851 census that Hannah was the wife of Edward Williams, a butcher from the village of Charlton (now lying under the Filton runway).  In 1851, Edward and Hannah were living in the High Street.  By 1861 Edward had retired and he and Hannah had moved to Castle Street.

Edward and Hannah were buried in the Thornbury Congregational Church (now known as the United Reformed Church).  Their gravestone shows that Edward died in September 1861 aged 33 years and that Hannah died on July 22nd 1873 aged 72 years.
