Dr. J.E. Phelps at Thornbury
The funeral took place at Thornbury Parish Church on Monday of Dr
John Evomy Phelps of Gloucester Road Thornbury. Dr Phelps who
was 85 years of age had been in practice in the town for nearly 40
years, but had lived in retirement for the last 20 years. The
service at the Church was conducted by the Rev. H.E. McLeod (Vicar)
and the interment followed at the Cemetery.
The family mourners were Mr Arthur Phelps, Mrs Pridham, Mrs Hine,
Mrs John Phelps, Mrs Burgoyne (sons and daughters), Mr Frederick
Pollicutt, Mrs Richard Henry Pollicutt, Mr Arthur Pollicutt
(brothers-in-law) and Mr Frederick H Pollicutt (nephew). Mr
Pridham (son in law) was unable to attend owing to illness.
The general mourners included Dr E M Grace, Miss Grace, Mr and Mrs F
A Pennington, Mrs Rabley (also representing Mr W G Rabley), Mrs
Bruton, Mr F Shepherd, Mr P J Cooper, Mr W Yarnold, Mr Ernest Monks,
Mrs H Davis, Mr A Davis, Mr A Riddiford JP, Mrs T Grove, Mr F W
Goulding and others.
The bearers were Messrs E A Pitcher, Elwyn Pitcher, H Sherborne and
E Green and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs W W
Pitcher and Sons Thornbury. There were no flowers by request.
