We haven't yet seen the deeds of number 14.

The tithe survey published in 1840 shows that about half the terrace had already been built. Plot 248 of this survey includes the two houses with gardens, now known as numbers 16 and 18 Gloucester Road.  The house that we now know as number 14 was also part of plot 248, but the map and associated details suggest that the house was still under construction.

All these properties were owned by John Hodges, the builder who was building the terrace.

In the 1851 census, it is not entirely clear who is living in number 14 or whether it is occupied at all.  In the 1861 census, the house appears uninhabited.

In the 1900's the house was known by the name of 'Durley'.  We think that it was a tenant called Ethel Garn who gave it this name.
