Deeds of No. 2 – held by Thornbury Museum - an indenture
dated 24 August 1852 shows that the house was divided into two
parts; widowed John Hodges in the one, and his daughter, Emma and
her husband, John Williams
Deeds of No. 8 include Conveyance dated 14 August 1865
transfers ownership from John Hodges to George Hodges – but relates
to No. 18/20. This conveyance refers also to an Indenture
dated 23 and 24 August 1832 referring to a lease and release between
James Ford, John Hodges and John Shepherd.
Deeds of No. 18 include a conveyance between Geoffrey Stephen
Hodges, John Hodges and George Alfred Exell dated 25 March 1947.
This includes a list changes to the Trustees of George Hodges.
Deeds of No. 22 include a conveyance between John Hodges
Williams and Samuel William Gallop Dennis dated 23June 1914.
This includes a plan showing ownership of No. 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 &
24 and the plot of land behind the terrace.
Gloucester Records Office
Will of Emma Williams dated 26 February 1895. It mentions an
Indenture dated 3 December 1867 made between John Hodges, John & Emma
Williams & James Hodges and George Hodges. This may relate to all John
Hodges’s property being distributed between George & Emma.

A memorandum of agreement made 8th May 1894 between John Williams, the
elder, of Gloucester House, retired tailor, his wife, Emma Williams, and
their son, John Hodges Williams.
A draft of an indenture dated 1894 concerned John Hodges Williams and his
son, John Henry Williams, trading as Williams and Son in a tailoring
business in Gloucester House rented underneath Emma and John Williams of
Gloucester House. Another document dated 8 May 1894 confirmed the terms.
